Helen Maxine Meade, 97, French Lick

Helen Maxine Meade, 97, of French Lick, entered into eternal rest on February 16, 2025, at Springs Valley Meadows in French Lick, surrounded by family.

She was born on August 8, 1927, in Northwest Township, Orange County, Indiana, to Wilber and Georgia (Hagemier) Myers.

Maxine married Gale L. Wilson on March 22, 1946, and he preceded her in death. She then married Rev. Weldon Meade on August 6, 1988, and he also preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Janice Nonte, Mildred Cassidy and Bonnie Ragan; and son-in-law, John Aylsworth.

Maxine graduated from West Baden High School in 1945 and worked beside her husband, Gale, for many years as co-owners of the Star Store, Star TV Furniture and Appliance, Star Equipment and Supply Company and Wilson’s Automatic Laundry, in addition to various other entrepreneurial activities in the community. She was also a real estate agent for Boyer Real Estate for more than 20 years.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in January 1963. A member of Hillham Church of Christ in Christian Union for 57 years, she loved serving the Lord and taught Sunday School for approximately 45 years and served as missionary president. She also loved the time she spent as Pastor’s wife at Dover Hill Church.

Maxine loved people and always had a smile. She was an avid reader of the Bible, worked tirelessly supporting missionaries and visiting people who were homebound in nursing facilities. 

Maxine is survived by sons, Phillip L. Wilson (Debbie) of Alfordsville and Kevin L. Wilson (Darlena) of New Albany; daughter, Patti Gail Aylsworth of French Lick; stepchildren Michael Meade (Christine), Marilyn Jenkins and Julie Meade, all of Ohio; grandchildren, Heidi Aylsworth Taylor (L.T.), Luke Aylsworth (Laura), Lacy Aylsworth Flynn (John), Trent Wilson (Jennifer), Christina Wilson Heisler (Quin), Michael Wilson (Kathryn), Bethany Wilson Heimbach, and  Abigail Wilson Westerfield (Ethan); 14) great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; numerous step-grandchildren/great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom she loved as her own!

A Funeral Ceremony will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home with burial to follow in Ames Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brosmer-Kemple Funeral Home and on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Maxine’s memory to the Hillham Missionary Fund, c/o Hillham Church of Christ in Christian Union, P.O. Box 35, West Baden Springs, IN 47469.
