Helen L. Humbert, 78

Helen L. Humbert, 78, of Ireland, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2014, in St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

She was born at Ireland, Indiana on October 27,1935, to Robert and Alice (Renner) Sermersheim.

She married Linus Humbert on August 22, 1959 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

Helen was a homemaker and member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland and the St. Ann’s Society and the Christians Mothers. Helen was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning and quilting.

She is survived by her husband, Linus Humbert; son, Dan Humbert and his wife Teresa, of Celestine; daughters, Bonnie Bowlin and her husband Barry, Ireland and Carla Rice and her husband Dannie, of Cynthiana, Ind.; eight grandchildren; Adam Deffendall who made is home with Helen and Linus Humbert.  Alex Deffendall, Andrew Deffendall, Austin Deffendall , Hannah Humbert, Elle Humbert, Collin Bowlin and Connor Bowlin; also one great granddaughter, Shylee Enlow; sisters, Eugenia (Jeanie) Mehringer, of Jasper, and Marian Lynch and husband James, of Jeffersonville.

Preceding her in death are one daughter, Gail Deffendall.

Funeral services for Helen Humbert will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 9, 2014, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
