Helen Kathleen Lottes, 98, Lamar

Helen was born in Spencer County on December 16, 1923, to John and Lola Mae (Quick) Smith.

She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and the Women’s Guild in Lamar. Helen was a 1941 graduate of Grandview High School. She had worked at General Electric and later worked and retired from Ken Shourds Equipment after 30 years. Helen enjoyed traveling and was very supportive of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often attending their activities.

In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord Lottes whom she married in 1941; her son-in-law, Ken Shourds; her grandsons, Jared Shourds and Eddie Ward; her great grandson, Colin Shourds; her siblings, Elmer Smith, Yvonne Sisley, Thelma Hunter, Don Smith, and Darrell Pennington.

She is survived by her daughters, Carol Shourds of Rockport and Nancy Lottes of Jasper; her grandchildren Stacy Huffman and her husband, Randy, Kelly Ward and Jason Shourds and his wife, Tammy; her great-grandchildren Taylor Huffman, Ethan Huffman, Wesley Ward, Tyler Ward, Whitney Ward, Kerrigan Shourds, Kylie Shourds, and Kendalyn Shourds; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The funeral service was on March 11, 2022, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Church in Lamar, Indiana with burial in the church cemetery.
