Helen F. Zehr, 91, Dubois

Helen F. Zehr, 91, Dubois, passed away at 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born on January 22, 1925 in St. Paul, Indiana to John and Freada (Friday) Chambers. Her first marriage was to William E. Dodd. He passed on December 25, 1944 in Germany during combat in World War II. Her second marriage was to Andrew Zehr. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1968.

Helen was a homemaker and member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois. She enjoyed flowers, playing bingo, gardening, spending time with family and being the “Mayor of Skeeterville”

She is survived by five daughters; Barbara Corn of Clarksville, Sandra Haynes of Arkansas, Diane Carie and husband Terry of Dubois, Lisa Merkley and husband Kenny of Dubois and Lila Kempf and husband Allen “Rock” of Haysville; four sons, William Dodd of Huntingburg, Jake Zehr and wife Sherry of Dubois, Doyle Zehr of Arkansas and Ronald Zehr and wife Rachel of Missouri; 45 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Rasche of Dubois; three brothers, Carl Chambers of St. Paul, Ind., John Chambers of Indianapolis and Franklin Chambers and wife Marilyn of Waldron, Ind.

Preceding her in death besides her husbands were three sons, Richard Dodd, John Dodd and Steve Zehr; one grandson, Tyler Dodd; one infant great-granddaughter; and one sister, Margaret McMillian.

Funeral services for Helen Zehr will be held at 11:00 a.m on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois with burial to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Dubois. The Rev. John Sterrett will officiate.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana, and from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time on Wednesday at the church.
