Helen C. Gress, 85, Ireland, passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.
Helen was born in St. Henry, Indiana on June 13, 1931, to Adolph and Clara (Lange) Begle. She married Wilfred “Wif” Gress on May 10, 1952, in St. Henry Catholic Church.
She was a 1949 high school graduate of the Ferdinand Academy, where she was a member of the orchestra. She was a homemaker and also worked at Wal-Mart in Jasper for 13 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and their St. Anne’s Society, and the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella. She also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, The Ireland Historical Society, the Dubois County German Club, and a past member of the Ireland Extension Homemakers.
She enjoyed flowers, gardening, quilting, reading the newspaper, listening to music, traveling and spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Wilfred “Wif” Gress of Ireland; one daughter, Cindy Vogt and husband Mike of Jasper; six sons, Steve Gress and wife Becky of Indianapolis, Terry Gress and wife Susan of Ireland, Mike Gress and wife Debbie of Ireland, Ken Gress and wife Jami of Jasper, Dave Gress and wife Karen of Princeton and Dan Gress, and companion Molly Ballard of Santa Claus; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Fischer and husband Pat, Ferdinand; four brothers, Otto Begle and wife Jean of Ferdinand, Norbert Begle and wife Jo Ann of Holland, Adolph “Butch” Begle and wife Cindy of St. Henry and Dennis Begle and wife Mary of Dale.
Preceding her in death were brothers Charles and Edwin Begle; sister Rita Hoffman; and one brother Edward Begle who passed in infancy.
Funeral services for Helen C. Gress will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. The St. Mary’s St. Anne’s Society will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m.
