Health Department hosting mass vaccination clinic at JMS

The Dubois County Health Department in collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health will host a district-wide mass vaccination clinic to administer 1,200 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This Saturday, January 23, 2021, the health department will administer vaccinations at the Jasper Middle School, 3600 Portersville Road. Appointments are available from 8 a.m. to noon and then from 1 to 5 p.m.

The second dose will be administered on February 20, 2021, at the Jasper Middle School as well.

Currently, health care workers, first responders, and residents 70 and older are eligible to receive the vaccination.

According to the Dubois County Health Department Administrative Director Shawn Werner, this clinic is a huge undertaking for the department.

Currently, the department is administering about 450 vaccinations a week through the drive thru site at the health department office on St. Charles Street.

As a centrally located site, Werner explained that as the state was preparing these mass vaccinations across the state, they reached out to Dubois County to be a site in District 10. “They control the amount of vaccine we get as well as the appointment process,” he explained. “We can’t stray from the schedule so it will be 25 shots every 10 minutes until we get it done.”

“This is a great opportunity for any eligible individual looking for an appointment or anyone looking to receive the vaccination sooner than a future appointment already scheduled,” he wrote in an email.

For those who sign up for the vaccination clinic, please park on the NORTHSIDE parking lot behind the school building. There will be signs directing you where to go.

The only way to receive the COVID-19 vaccine is by scheduling an appointment at www.ourshot.in.gov  or by calling 211 for those individuals who do not have internet access.  ** choose (Dubois Co. HD Jasper Middle Sch VAX) clinic site for this one-day event**

Please arrive as close to your scheduled appointment time as possible to keep the clinic running on time and to help us maintain social distancing requirements.

The Dubois County Health Department will continue to share the information as more clinics become available here in Dubois County.
