Health Department completing Community Health Assessment

The Dubois County Health Department is conducting a Community Health Assessment, with assistance from the Indiana University School of Public Health and the Indiana University Center for Survey Research.

The Indiana Public Health Association and five other local health departments are also collaborating on the survey. They include Madison, Monroe, Ripley, Jackson and Clark County Health Departments.

Two thousand surveys are being sent out by mail and email to Dubois County residents. Recipients are being carefully chosen so that a truly representative sample is reached. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and all answers will be confidential.

“Hearing what the community feels and understands about their health, what resources are available to them and their commitment to health is very important,” said Administrative Director, Donna Oeding. “Therefore, it is important for those who receive the survey to provide their feedback to insure the correct health related services are being provided.”

Community Health Assessments are used by health departments, hospitals and other agencies in public health to gather information used to identify health needs, issues and assets. The survey will help the health department learn more about the community- how we feel about our health, how resources should be allocated and what are believed to be the most important health issues the community is facing.

The data collected will be used to help improve the health-related services provided by organizations in Dubois County.

The Dubois County Health Department is using the health assessment survey as part of a requirement for public health accreditation.
