Hazel M. Niehaus Cooper, 101
Hazel M. Niehaus Cooper, age 101, of Huntingburg, went to be with the Lord at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at The Waters of Huntingburg.
She was born February 16, 1912 in Huntingburg, Indiana to John W. and Emma (Ahrens) Niehaus.
She was united in marriage to Earl W. Cooper of Dale, Indiana on August 22, 1937. They made their homes in Evansville, Jeffersonville and Dale, Indiana; Pennsville, New Jersey; Sandy Hook, Tennessee; and retired to Huntingburg in 1978.
Hazel was a homemaker and member of Central Christian Church in Huntingburg. Church was always a focal point of her life. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and working with the children in Bible school. Hazel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jeffersonville and very active with Job’s Daughters. She liked sewing, crafts, activities with friends, and traveling with Earl; but family was her primary love.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Earl W. Cooper, who died February 27, 1986; and one daughter, Ruthann Aldrich.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Earleen (Marty) Mennen of Columbus, IN; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles P. “Sonny” (Suzanne) Cooper of Huntingburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul I. (Carol) Niehaus of Charlestown, IN; seven grandchildren, Steve Mennen of Columbus, IN, Ken (Kathy) Mennen of Longmont, CO, Kristen (David) McBride of Charlotte, NC, Kirk (Dana) Aldrich of Harrisburg, PA, Ryan (Jill) Cooper of Huntingburg, Kit (Arin) Cooper of Huntingburg, Kari (Mike) Kronin of Huntingburg; and by sixteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Hazel M. Cooper will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Dale Cemetery in Dale, Indiana. Hazel’s granddaughter, Kristen McBride, and Pastor Paul Newland will officiate at the funeral.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 12:00 noon-2:00 p.m., on Wednesday.
