Harold Louis “Chalkie” Ermert, 86

Harold Louis “Chalkie” Ermert, 86, of Huntingburg, passed away at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
He was born August 12, 1929, in Duff, Indiana, to Edward and Carrie (Caldemeyer) Ermert. He married Mary Ella Evrard on April 18, 1950 in Dale, Indiana.
Mr. Ermert was owner of Mary’s Furniture and co-owner of Lincoln Trails Furniture. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, V.F.W. Post #2366, and the American Legion. Chalkie enjoyed camping and was an avid collector. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Chalkie was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Marie Rauscher, Carrie Rauscher, Selma Snyder and Mabel Springston; and two brothers, Henry Ermert and Elmer Ermert.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ella Ermert of Huntingburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe Ermert and wife Janis of Indianapolis; two daughters and one son-in-law, Janice Kays of Huntingburg and Camille Faye and husband Tom Neeley of Newburgh; by five grandchildren, Alex, Amber, April, Brianne and Elizabeth; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Harold “Chalkie” Ermert will be held at 10:00 a.m.EDT Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. Interment of his cremains will take place at Mayo Cemetery near Duff, Indiana. The Reverend Mark West will officiate at the funeral service.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
