Harold Carl Bartelt, age 90, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 8:15 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his residence.

He was born September 30, 1922 in Pike County, Indiana to Amos E. and Minnie (Nass) Bartelt. He married Doris Virginia Taylor on December 30, 1945 at St. Paul’s Church in Holland.

Mr. Bartelt was a retired farmer, milk hauler and woodworker. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holland, the Holland American Legion where he served as former Post Commander, and the V.F.W. Post #2366.

Harold was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He served in the 310th Regiment of the Army Infantry’s 78th Division in Rhineland, Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by: one brother, Glenn Bartelt; and one sister, Helen Hagemeyer.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Virginia Bartelt of Huntingburg; two sons and two daughter-in-laws, Michael (Sandra) Bartelt of Jasper and Randall (Rita) Bartelt of Huntingburg; and three grandchildren, Cassandra (Jason) Heile of Holland, Audra Bartelt of Evansville, and Holly Bartelt of Indianapolis; and two great-grandchildren, Isaac and Henry Heile – at home.

Funeral services for Harold Bartelt will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holland with burial to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery (Holland). Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Holland American Legion Honor Guard.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday; and also at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holland from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Thursday morning, prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Paul’s Cemetery Fund.
