Guy Nelson Austin, Jr., 87

Guy Nelson Austin, Jr., age 87, of Birdseye, Indiana, passed away at 7:55 a.m., Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home in Birdseye surrounded by his family.
He was born September 11, 1926 in Dubois County, Indiana to Guy N. Austin, Sr. and Lola (Cook) Austin. He married Anna Rose Schnell on November 6, 1951 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Guy was a retired insurance agent for Western & Southern Insurance. He served in the United States Merchant Marines from 1944-47 and the United States Army from 1951-57. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Schnellville; the Huntingburg V.F.W. Post #2366; the Jasper American Legion Post #147; and former member of the Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Anna Rose Austin, who passed away May 2, 2013; four sisters; and one granddaughter, Contesa Austin.
He is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Debra (Rick) Johnson of New Harmony, Sandy (Jack) Hall of Sanford, N.C., Belle Ann (Fred) Hagedorn of Ferdinand, and Laura Mohr of Ferdinand; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Mark (Marcia) Austin of Birdseye, Tom (Cheryl) Austin of Ramsey, Ind., and Matthew (Tracy) Austin of Birdseye; one sister, Jeanie Gilliatt of Fishers, Ind.; 15 grandchildren, Timothy (Laura) Kahle, Lesha (Mitchell) McCoy, Heather (Cy) Kirk, Colin (Ericka) Austin, Elliott (Mary) Hagedorn, Isabel (Matt) Makowski, Camille Hagedorn, Anna Hagedorn, Ashley (Jason) Armstrong, Cody Austin, Shelby Austin, Logan Mohr, Isaac Austin, Guy Austin and Brice Austin and eight great-grandchildren, Grace Kahle, Gibson Kahle, Ethan Kahle, Amanda McCoy, Cameron McCoy, McKayla Kirk, Nathan Kirk and Ava Calvert.
Funeral services for Guy Austin, Jr. will be held at 10 a.m., EDT, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Schnellville with burial to follow at Birdseye Cemetery in Birdseye. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4-8 p.m., EDT, on Monday; and also at church, Tuesday morning, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral. During visitation on Monday, a Parish Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 4 p.m. and a Firefighter’s Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association District 18 and Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department.
