Group picture shows LGBT support in Jasper
A group of about 90 adults and children gathered in Jasper’s Jaycee Park to show support for area LGBT teens Monday evening.
No speeches were made nor handouts doled out to those who arrived; just a simple picture with a banner stating, “We love you. We support you.”
“The aim of the photo, the big dream, is that it reaches the right kid at the right time,” said organizer Abbie Rumbach. “That they might see it and be encouraged by it when they need it the most.”
Organized under Huddle, a new Facebook group that defines itself at an inclusive, action-oriented community of individuals striving to make their voices heard and turn their values into action, Rumbach, 38, thought the event would be a great way to show local teens that members of the community support them.
Atalie Schroering, health occupation teacher at Jasper High School, is the Gay Straight Alliance student group co-leader at Jasper High School. “This was amazing. I got a little teary-eyed,” she explained about seeing the support for the get-together. “This community is amazing.”
Schroering said the simple gathering and photo means a lot to the LGBT students that don’t necessarily see the support when they are reading social media comments. “I think that this is big for these kids to see adults in the community showing support,” she said.

I’m a queer adult in Dubois County and I could not be more grateful for these people and their support. Thank you so so so so much. Thank you.
We love you all too, but hate your sin and you must turn back to God’s law or there will be consequences to your actions. Sorry, just the way that it is.
