Greater Jasper Consolidated School Board meeting notes for September 17

The Greater Jasper Consolidated School Board met at their regular meeting on Monday night.

Approved adding four security cameras to Ruxer Field in response to continued vandalism and theft that have occurred there over eight years. Story here.

Approved the review and potential purchase of bus routing software to increase the efficiency of the current bus routes and deal with a growing population and demographic. The new program will cost $28,000 to install and an annual fee of $5998 to maintain. The bus routes have not been reviewed for about 19 years. Other news

The board declared the old telephone system as surplus and authorized Hacker to sell it to any interested party. The school is currently almost completed with an upgrade of the entire school corporation. Only the elementary schools remain to be completed.

Gymnasium progess

Hacker reported the gymnasium is 19% complete and ahead of schedule. The gym is projected to be completed by May of 2013 and the goal is to have it under roof by late-October to allow for work to be completed regardless of the weather conditions.

The project has had three change orders; two have saved money on the project and the third will be able to be recouped by the Athletics Department.

Upcoming public forum

The board heard from Superintendent Dr. Tracy Lorey that the school will be holding an open educational forum for the public on November 5 at 6:30 p.m. According to Dr. Lorey the forum is designed to allow shareholders in the school corporation to ask any question concerning the school corporation.

Dr. Lorey stated the forum was not a timed event and they would answer questions until everyone attending was satisfied.
