Greater Jasper Consolidated School Board meeting Feb. 27
The majority of the Greater Jasper School Board Meeting was spent authorizing the purchase of needed items from the Capital Projects Fund.
Assistant Superintendent Mike Hile made the recommendations to the board that consisted of well over $250,000 in expenditures in the form of:
- A Thomas bus from Kerlin Bus sales in the amount of $102,366.00 minus $2,366.00 for trade-in of an older standby bus. This will allow the school to have a few newer standby buses.
- Upgrade computer labs at all elementary Schools – total of 140 computers – by AME of Vincennes for $96,740.00. Hile says that the computers are 7 years old and they will be “lucky” if they make it through the end of the school year.
- Paving of the parking lot behind 5th St. School – Hunter Paving $51,988.00. Hile states that the parking lot condition is past being able to be repaired just by adding a top coating of sealer.
- A copier contract with Hoosier Business Machines in the amount of $2,255.48 per month saying that the 17 copiers in all of the school offices get heavy use of over 294,000 pages per month.
- An annual Fertilizer order from Superior Ag for $11,633.30. This contract will supply all of the athletic fields and grassy areas on School owned property to be properly maintained.
- Actuator Motors for HVAC for Ireland Elementary School – 12 for $4,380.00 with installation coming from Ireland maintenance personnel. Hile reports that the big items on the list will be summer projects.
- $10,000 to help fund a storage building at Ireland Elementary School. These funds are in addition to the $35,000 that will be raised by the
PTOIreland Youth Sports Group to build the estimated $45,000 structure.
The board approved each of the expenditures.
10th Street School Principal Kent Taylor and three of his teachers presented their annual improvement program. Also, Curriculum Director, Dr. Tracy Lorey gave a brief update to the board as well.
Wrestling Coach, Rick Stenftenagel was recognized for his induction into the High School Hall of Fame for his work as a coach in Indiana. Stenftenagel has been coach for 24 years in Jasper with 389 wins. He is also a Special Ed instructor at the high school. Athletic Director Andy Noblitt and High School Principal Bob Hacker commended him before the School Board, who applauded him for his accomplishment.
