Grace V. Bauernfiend, 101

Grace V. Bauernfiend, age 101, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2012 at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.

She was born July 21, 1910 near Holland, Indiana to John H. and Matilda (Katterhenry) Steinkamp. She graduated with the Huntingburg High School Class of 1928 and was united in marriage to Edward J. “Tax” Bauernfiend on November 3, 1934 at the Trinity Church parsonage in Jasper. Grace worked as a secretary for the Huntingburg Brickyard and the Albert Reutepohler Insurance Agency. She retired from the former Maple Park Elementary School where she worked as a cafeteria cook. Grace was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and the Salem Women’s Guild.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Edward J. “Tax” Bauernfiend who passed away November 2, 1983; two brothers, Alton Steinkamp and Melvin Steinkamp; and one sister, Caroline Gercken.

She is survived by:

One daughter, Carol A. Bolling – Huntingburg, IN,

One son, Allan Bauernfiend – Huntingburg, IN,

by (7) grandchildren, (17) great grandchildren and (2) great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Grace Bauernfiend will be held at 10:00 a.m., E.D.T., on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Huntingburg. Pastor Tom Wade will officiate the services.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 3:00-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday.
