Gordon Russell Miller, 84

Gordon Russell Miller, 84, of Huntingburg, was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, September 6, 2013.

He was born January 29, 1929 in Huntingburg, Indiana, to Heber and Etta Marie (Doughty) Miller.

He married Nona Wineinger on June 7, 1953 at Central Christian Church in Huntingburg.

Gordon served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Kimball International’s Jasper Laminates Division and served on the Huntingburg City Council for two terms.

He was a lifelong member of Central Christian Church where he served as custodian and deacon for many years and was a member of V.F.W. Post #2366 where he served on the Memorial Detail.

Gordon was a talented carpenter, enjoyed his workshop; loved spending time with family and friends, telling stories, and helping anyone God placed in his path.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Barbara Harris.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nona Miller of Huntingburg; four children, Larry (Jolene) Miller of Lafayette, IN, Mark (Carol) Miller, Gregg (Lorrie) Miller and Cheryl (Craig) Taylor, all of Huntingburg; one brother, James (Dixie) Miller of Richmond, IN; two sisters, Doris McAfee of Floyds Knobs, IN, and Miriam “Bonnie” (Dennis) Thimling of Huntingburg; and by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gordon Miller will be held at 1:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Central Christian Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail. Pastor Paul Newland will officiate at the funeral.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00-8:00 p.m., on Monday; and also at Central Christian Church from 12:00-1:00 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the funeral.
