Lindsay Gootee was arraigned today in Dubois County Circuit Court. Gootee was in court of her own recognizance as she posted bond soon after being arrested for the aggravated battery of her infant son.

Judge Weikert explained at today’s arraignment that aggravated battery is battery in which a person knowingly or intentionally inflicts injury on a person that creates a substantial risk of death or causes:

  1. serious permanent disfigurement;
  2. protracted loss or impairment of the function of a bodily member or organ

The maximum sentence is 20 years and a minimum of six.

Judge William Weikert set Gootee’s next court date for December 14 at 10 a.m. She is responsible for finding legal council before that date. Gootee was visibly upset with the judge’s decision to allow her to find her own council rather than assign a public council for her.

Gootee left the court and declined to make a statement regarding the case.
