Girls on the Run of Southwest Indiana celebrates over 530 girls at annual 5K event

Girls on the Run of Southwest Indiana (GOTRSWIN) invites the community to celebrate the power, confidence, and accomplishments of more than 530 local girls at its annual Spring 5K on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Jasper Middle School.
This celebratory, non-competitive 5K marks the culmination of an eight-week, evidence-based program designed to inspire girls in grades 3 to 8 to recognize their inner strength, build meaningful connections, and develop lifelong skills for physical and emotional well-being.
Throughout the season, participants have engaged in lessons that blend physical activity with important life skills such as confidence-building, teamwork, decision-making, and empathy. The 5K event serves as a joyful and empowering finish line where every girl is encouraged, supported, and celebrated.
“This event is so much more than a race,” said Jonna Breitwieser, Executive Director of Girls on the Run of Southwest Indiana. “It is a powerful moment where each girl realizes what she is capable of. Watching them cross the finish line with confidence, joy, and a sense of accomplishment is truly inspiring for our entire community.”
The event brings together families, volunteers, educators, and community partners to cheer on participants as they complete the 3.1-mile course. Each girl is paired with a running buddy, ensuring that every participant feels supported and successful as they cross the finish line.
Girls on the Run of Southwest Indiana serves Dubois, Spencer, and Vanderburgh counties, providing accessible programming that removes barriers and ensures every girl has the opportunity to participate. Community support and local partnerships play a critical role in making this impact possible.
The public is encouraged to attend, cheer along the course, and experience the mission of Girls on the Run firsthand.
