Dove’s night out

Through support from Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, the Dubois County Dove Recovery House hosted a Galentine’s Day event last Friday evening at the Kerstiens Development/Premier Properties building.

Traditionally, Galentine’s Day is observed the day before Valentine’s Day to celebrate women with a pampering experience. It’s a day of professional hair and makeup services, nail service, massages, yoga and meditation as well as fun.

Lucy Mundy picked through the stickers made available for participants while Director Megan Durlauf spoke with one of the residents.

On Friday, all 15 residents of the Jasper House experienced this thanks to local businesses and volunteers who made it possible.

The event took place in the community room at Kirstien’s building who donated both the space and food for a taco bar. Anthem sponsored the event as part of a $50,000 grant awarded to support clinical services for the Indianapolis-based recovery service.

Andrea Schnaus led the group through a relaxation activity.

Local director Megan Durlauf was excited to host the special event for residents, many of whom had never had the opportunity to experience a massage or to have their hair and makeup professionally done.

Durlauf explained that it was important to provide these women with a fun night to relax and be pampered. She and the Doves thanked all the volunteers who donated their time to provide professional services.

“They felt very loved, which was the whole point,” Durlauf said.

The following volunteers and businesses made the event possible.
