Gerald “Jerry” O. Cunningham, 83, of Santa Claus, Indiana, passed away at 11:20 a.m., on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born June 1, 1931 in Rockford, Illinois, to Orril and Genevieve (Johnson) Cunningham. He married Carolyn F. Grimes on June 15, 1952 in Decatur, Illinois.

Jerry retired from the United States Department of Labor as Area Director of the Milwaukee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) office. He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE); a former Boy Scout troop Scoutmaster; an avid reader; and volunteered as a local Salvation Army Bell Coordinator. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate First Class, during the Korean War and was deployed on cruises to Korea and the Mediterranean Sea.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Cunningham.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn F. Cunningham of Santa Claus; one daughter and one son-in-law, Dee L. (Bill) Lusk of Placentia, Cali.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jay O. Cunningham of Lisle, Ill. and Rex O. (Jodi) Cunningham of Chandler, Ariz.; his stepmother, Marquerite Lusth of Rockford, Ill.; one brother, Ronald O. Cunningham of Lexington, S.C.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Gerald “Jerry” Cunningham will be held at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.  Reverend William Covey will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday.
