Gerald “Jerry” Herbig, 76

Gerald “Jerry” Herbig, 76, Ferdinand, died Friday, December 6, 2013, at his home.
He was born in Jasper on April 10, 1937, to Othmar and Juanita (Goldman) Herbig.
He married Barbara Olinger on May 28,1960, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Herbig; a son, Rick Herbig and wife Ava of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Debbie Hoffman and husband Phil and Sue Herbig of Jasper; three brothers, Tony Herbig of Ferdinand, Ron Herbig of California and Jim Herbig of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Marlene Merkel and husband Allen of Jasper, Betty Helming and husband Rich and Janice Berger and husband Albert of Ferdinand, and Gloria Nosko and husband Marty of Boonville; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
Mr. Herbig was a route salesman for the 7Up bottling company and a salesman at Marketing & Management Insurance Co., from which he retired after 15 years.
He was a member of the Army National Guard, St. Ferdinand Parish and its St. Joseph’s Sodality, St. Meinrad Knights of Columbus Council 5599, Ferdinand Community Center and Ferdinand American Legion Post 124.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, c/o Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center or St. Ferdinand Parish.
