Gerald J. Spanbauer, 81
Gerald J. Spanbauer, age 81, of Birdseye, passed away at 3:48 a.m., Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
He was born May 29, 1930 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to John and Irma (Neitzke) Spanbauer. Mr. Spanbauer was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ridenour on October 28, 1952 at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was a retired manager for J.C. Penny’s. Gerald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, the Knights of Columbus, and served with the United States Army 2nd Division during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Alice M. Ritter; and one brother, Thomas Spanbauer.

A Funeral Mass for Gerald J. Spanbauer will be celebrated by Fr. Ralph Schipp at 10:00 a.m., E.S.T., on Saturday, March 3rd at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville with burial to follow at Birdseye Cemetery in Birdseye. The V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday; and also from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday morning, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville. A prayer service, conducted by Rev. Ron Hickman, will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Birdseye Cemetery Fund or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
