Gerald J. “Shafty” Schaaf, age 71 of Jasper passed away at 6:06 a.m. Thursday (December 29, 2011) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born in Jasper February 9, 1940 to Joseph and Josephine (Borrell) Schaaf.

Shafty was a graduate of Jasper High School and had retired from the furniture manufacturing in Jasper. He was also a bartender in Jasper.

He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He enjoyed fishing and sports.

Surviving are two nieces

  • Mrs. Tom (LaDonna ) Nallin, Evansville, IN
  • Mrs. Steve (Marilyn) Trinkel, Chrisney, IN

He was preceded in death by one brother Donald Schaaf and one sister, Edna Recker.

Funeral services for Gerald Schaaf will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (January 3, 2012) in St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. until service time at Becher – Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
