Genevieve A. Sterling, 93

With hearts overflowing with joyous memories and love, we announce the passing of the beloved Genevieve A. Sterling on April 23, 2026, who reached for her late husband, Francis C. Sterling’s, hand to join him in eternal peace.

Genevieve was born on October 1, 1932, to Arnold V. Castro and Sarah J. Vazquez Castro-Nasta in San Diego, Calif.

She graduated from Sweet Water High School. She was a member of Women Of The Moose in Jasper, the VFW Aux in Petersburg, Girl Scouts of Southwest Indiana, the American Legion Aux in Washington, Ind., and a member of Blue Star Mothers of America. 

Genevieve always kept her hands busy. Whether she was planting flowers, making clothes for her grandsons, crocheting ponchos for her daughter, making ceramics, or quilting. She always had a smile on her face and loved spending time with family and friends. Her favorite movie was Harry Potter, and her favorite TV shows were Dr. Pol, Law and Order SVU, 911, FBI, and any mystery show. Her favorite colors were a variety of shades of blue and green. She loved her baby Yoda and unicorns.

She married her husband, Frank C. Sterling on February 10, 1960, who was a Vietnam Navy veteran. She loved her life as a Navy wife and always supported him.

Genevieve is survived by her daughter, Carmen Sterling of Velpen; special people in her life, Frank Watkins and Larry Payne; her grandchildren, Jeffrey F. (Nadine) Decker of Washington, Ind. and James G. Decker of Nashville, Tenn.; and her beloved pets, Luna, Callie, and many more.

Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Sterling; her parents; and her brother, Arnold Castro.

In accordance with Genevieve’s wishes, she will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. EDT on Saturday, May 16, at the Jasper Moose Lodge located at 2507 Newton St, Jasper.
