Friends of Lincoln complete new fishing pier

The Friends of Lincoln State Park celebrated the completion of a new fishing pier on the lake at Lincoln State Park. r
The project began nearly two years ago and the Friends of Lincoln State Park spent that time raising funds and exploring various options and specs for the pier.
Located across Lake Lincoln from the boathouse and beach, the pier was delivered and installed in July between the dam and Nature Center. The pier is 20 feet wide and 32 feet long and is connected to the shoreline by a 6 ft x 12 ft bridge. The pier is constructed with a special railing that makes the pier friendly for fishing by those with disabilities as well as little ones who are not yet tall enough to see over the railing.
The project was completely funded by the Friends of Lincoln State Park from purchase to delivery to installation on Lake Lincoln.
“This has been an important and high priority project for our Friends group over the past couple of years,” said president Dan Wilkinson. “We certainly hope that this new pier will add to the experience of visitors to Lincoln State Park for many years to come. Whether or not you are a fisherman, this new pier provides an incredible view of the lake and provides a quiet spot to reflect on the natural surroundings of the park.”
Earlier this year, the Friends of Lincoln State Park donated two kayaks to the boat rental which previously had not rented kayaks. The new additions proved popular this summer. The kayaks were purchased for $806 and as of recently they had been rented 185 times and generated over $1,500 in rental fees for the park.
The board of directors of the Friends of Lincoln State Park wishes to thank all of our members whose membership dues and donations provide a significant portion of the funding for these projects. The board also appreciates the Lincoln State Park staff for their hard work preparing the walking trail for the pier.
