Free water drainage workshop “Water: It’s A Challenge” tonight

A special free water workshop will be held at the Ferdinand Community Center tonight.

The Town of Ferdinand, in conjunction with Judi Brown of the Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District, invites the public to a drainage workshop, “Water: It’s a Challenge!”  The focus of this program is to have an open discussion and answer questions on a variety of issues including:  water management processes, permitting applications, erosion of ditches and who is responsible to maintain them.

This free event will take place at the Ferdinand Community Center on Tuesday, June 23rd from 7-9 P.M.  The workshop is open to anyone in the area—especially those persons who live along waterways and ditch lines. There will be a total of up to three speakers discussing water related topics.

Featured speakers include Heather Parsons, Environmental Manager with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.  She will be presenting IDEM’s 401program, specifically wetland and stream permitting required by the Clean Water Act.  She will also be discussing what types of activities require permits, the different types of permits that can be issued, and the regulatory agencies that may be involved.

Also scheduled to speak is Eric Moster, Engineering Section Manager with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Water.  Moster’s presentation will focus on the Division of Water’s requirements for permits and how they work in conjunction with other state agencies.

Erosion control programs and measures that may assist or benefit property owners, based on a State of Indiana perspective, are another topic to be discussed at the workshop.

Again, this free water drainage workshop “Water: It’s A Challenge”, presented by the Town of Ferdinand and Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District, is open to the public and will be held Tuesday June 23 at the Ferdinand Community Center, starting at 7pm.  Persons with questions about the event may contact Ferdinand Town Manager Chris James at 812-367-2282 or via email at cjames@ferdinandindiana.org.
