Four injured in truck vs. SUV collision
Four people were injured when a truck collided with a small SUV at the intersection of State Road 162 and County 815S, north of Ferdinand at 3:08 p.m. Sunday.
According to police, Amy L. Rickelman, 46, of Ferdinand, was northbound on State Road 162 in a 2011 Kia Sorento and she stopped to turn west on County Road 815S. She was waiting for traffic to clear to complete the turn when her Kia was struck from behind by a 2004 Ford 150 driven by T. Clay Smith, 41, of Mitchell, Ind.
The collision caused Rickelman’s Kia to be pushed forward, but she was able to maintain control and pull off the road to stop. Smith was also able to keep his truck under control after the collision, and he pulled off the east side of the road.
Smith told deputies he was distracted from the road briefly and did not see that Rickelman had stopped her vehicle. He did not stop in time to avoid colliding with her SUV.
Two passengers in Smith’s truck complained of injuries; Matthew Goodman, 14, of Mitchell complained of neck and shoulder pain and Levi Smith, 14, of Mitchell, complained of injuries to his head and face.
Rickelman complained of injuries to her head, neck and hands while a passenger in her SUV, Max Rickelman, 20, of Ferdinand, had a cut on his head.
The injured individuals were taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
Both vehicles were considered total losses.
Seat belts were a factor in the lessoning of the injuries to all involved, according to deputies.
