Former PTO treasurer charged with theft of funds

A Jasper woman was arrested on allegations she stole more than $17,000 from the Tenth Street Elementary School Parent-Teacher Club while she was treasurer.

The Dubois County Superior Court issued a warrant for the arrest of Ellen L. Tubbs, 37, of Jasper, on 10 Level 6 felony counts of theft and seven misdemeanor counts of theft. Tubbs was the club treasurer between August 2016 and the end of October this year.

According to police, Tubbs allegedly wrote checks from a parent-teacher club account that deposited money into her own account. The Jasper Police Department started an investigation after receiving a report of missing funds in November.

Tubbs was booked into the Dubois County Security Center on Friday.
