Central Christian Church challenges local youth to food fight and fun

Ben Johnson just moved here from Nebraska to work as the new youth minister at Central Christian Church in Huntingburg. He is enthusiastic and has big plans for the growing youth group at the church but it is all based on having fun.

Recent fun events include a trip to the Indianapolis Zoo, a movie day in Evansville at the Imax theater, and an ice cream/family movie night at the church.

But a messier event recently happened in the church’s back-lot; Johnson organized a food fight. Kids were instructed to bring their own arsenal to the event and a plethora of different throw-able food items showed up. Spaghetti missiles and powdered sugar bombs made a great combination with many other sticky and slimy items that had to be hosed off at the end of the fight.
The fun continues this week during Vacation Bible School. This year’s theme is Panda Mania and it is popular.
“We had 76 kids show up for opening night last night.” Johnson said
This activity is open to all children fifth grade Monday through Thursday this week from 6:15 – 9:00 p.m. The youth groups are supporting an outreach ministry in North Korea, CRAM, an organization that supports an orphanage, farm, bakery, and school for special needs children. The boys and girls are challenged to contribute a bit of their own money in an effort to help others.
Next on the list of fun things to do is a Nerf Gun War. The kids are invited to bring their Nerf artillery over to the gymnasium at Central Christian and enjoy an all out battle in the gym. This activity is for kids in fifth grade and under.
