Florentine Mathias, 92
Florentine Mathias, age 92 of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 6:18 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Brookside Village in Jasper.
Florentine was born in Dubois, Indiana, on March 3, 1922, to Frank and Margaret (Schmitt) Seger. She married Othmar “Ottie” Mathias on May 4, 1946, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, IN. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2013.
Florentine was a beautician in the Jasper area for over 65 years.
She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and it’s Ladies Sodality, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, the VFW Post #673 Auxiliary, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 77 Auxiliary, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great children.
She is survived by one daughter; Charlene Sermersheim, and her husband, Gary, of Ireland; three sons; Dennis Mathias, and his wife Nancy, Pittsboro, N.C., Larry Mathias, and his wife Iomara, of Charlotte, N.C. and Paul Mathias, Starkville, Miss.; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; One great-great grandson; three brothers; Charles Seger and his wife Geraldine, of Jasper, Linus Seger and his wife June, of Astoria, Ore.. and James Seger and his wife Susanne, of Dubois.
Preceding her in death beside her husband is one daughter, Irene Persohn, and five brothers; Francis Seger, Joseph Alvin Seger, Bernard Seger, Cletus Seger, and Claude Seger.
Funeral services for Florentine Mathias will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, IN. The Precious Blood Ladies Sodality will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m.
