First Marine Corps League Golf Scramble held on Saturday

Hole Nine included an Honor Guard to remove the marker. Ed Herzog (holding the flag) and Allen Fritz served as the Honor Guard through the scramble. When teams approached the green Herzog or Fritz would approach the flag salute and remove it for the golfers and then return it with the same ceremony.

“Let’s just say it’s been very successful,” Pat O’Keefe, organizer of the first Marine Corps League Golf Scramble said on Saturday afternoon about the new event.

The event had 23 teams of four playing at Jasper Municipal Golf Course and 32 local sponsors supported the inaugural event. According to O’Keefe the funds raised will go to charities and causes the Marine Corps League supports. Those include the Dubois County Veterans Council, Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, Boy Scouts, Wounded Warriors, Honor Flight, Crumbo Scholarship, Marine Family Support Group, Little League, Boys State, sending care packages to service members and assisting Marines and their families when needed.

Teams won various prizes for placing and had a chance at $10,000 with a hole-in-one on Hole 17.
