Fire isolated to single silo

The Ireland Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a silo fire this morning around 9:40 a.m. at the Kenneth Vogel Farm at 550 West and Kessner Bridge Road.
Upon arrival crews found smoke emitting from the top of the stone block silo on the property.
Vogel said he discovered the fire around 9:30 am after smelling smoke, then seeing it coming from the silo. He also reported that the silo was filled about halfway with wheat and had apparently started to burn by spontaneous combustion. The silo was loaded about two months ago.
Three trucks from Ireland Volunteer Fire Department were on scene with about a dozen men.
Volunteer Firefighter Craig Greulich (also a county councilmember) said that they’ve been to the farm before on a similar fire run.
“The last time we had a fire, we had to take a high pressure water hose up to the top,” Vogel said.
Three trucks from Ireland Volunteer Fire Department were on scene with about a dozen men. Jasper assisted on scene with a ladder truck.
Vogel reported that the wheat is insured but not the silo structure itself but it did not appear to be damaged.
