Fire displaces four from Jasper duplex
A fire displaced a family from their duplex home on Rumbach Avenue Tuesday morning.
The Jasper Volunteer Fire Department was called to the report of a stove fire at the duplex owned by Parr 4 Rentals at 11:28 a.m. According to Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang, Sheldon Kempf, one of the occupants was at work while his fiancee stayed home with her two children.
She left a pot on the stove which started the fire that destroyed the kitchen and caused smoke damage throughout the rest of the home, according to Hochgesang.
She and the boys were able to exit the home without injury.
Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and provided blankets for the children while firefighters fought the blaze.
The family will be staying with relatives due and a Red Cross representative was contacted to provide services for the family to get clothing and other essentials.
Four trucks and 26 firefighters were on the scene 50 minutes.
The connecting duplex was not damaged in the fire.
