Fire destroys structure near Jasper

A 30-by-30 storage structure was destroyed in a fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang, they were dispatched to a structure fire on Old Huntingburg Road near the Jasper Sports Complex at about 5:17 p.m. When they arrived, firefighters found the building engulfed in flames. They concentrated on putting the fire out and minimizing damages to other nearby structures.

Jasper was assisted by tankers from Huntingburg and Ireland and spent about an hour and a half on the scene.

Hochgesang said the owner of the property had been in burning a pile of downed trees and embers from that fire likely set the building on fire.

The building was full of farm supplies, no equipment, and was a total loss.

In addition to the tankers from Huntingburg and Ireland, Jasper responded with a ladder truck and four pumpers and 25 Jasper Volunteer Firefighters.
