Fire at Huntingburg City Hall false alarm

The Huntingburg City Hall was the scene of 16 firefighters, three fire trucks and a somewhat distraught Mayor Denny Spinner early this morning when two fire alarms went off in the building.

According to Chief Scott Patberg, a heat sensor in the building’s duct work and a smoke alarm both went off at about 4:3o a.m. When the fire department responded, they determined the alarms were a malfunction assumed to be caused by lightning. The department had responded to a similar alarm at Styline earlier in the morning.

Chief Patberg also pointed out that Ethan Trustee, the department’s newest volunteer firefighter, had just received his fire fighting certificate Wednesday night after attending the training held in the county over the past three weeks. The city hall alarm was his first call out.
