Find your next treasure at The Good Find

Kelly and Ben Mathis opened The Good Find at the ‘Y’ in Jasper late last month and will host a ribbon-cutting with the Jasper Chamber of Commerce on Monday.
The new shop is an extension of Kelly’s experience repurposing furniture and decorating her own home, which evolved into a hobby of finding, refurbishing, repurposing, and selling treasures through Facebook Marketplace. It was an activity the serial entrepreneur found she could do while raising the couple’s nine children. It seems like a lot, but Kelly is a self-described workaholic who has operated several home-based businesses as well as opened a nanny agency.
The Mathis family relocated from Memphis to Jasper in December, specifically for Ben’s solar inspection work on the Duff Solar Project. He expected to be working on at least three projects for the company in the area, but unfortunately, Ben’s position was eliminated last week as EDP Renewables began making labor adjustments to reconcile a loss in profit from the previous year.
Despite the recent setback with Ben’s employment, the family has found strong connections in Jasper that make them want to stay. They attend Redemption Church and have connected with local homeschool families.
“We like it here. You know, we’ve been to five, six cities together in the last two years, three years. And this, between this and East Texas and Memphis, it’s probably the closest thing I could call home besides Memphis,” Kelly said.
In addition to feeling safe, Kelly also praises the numerous community events and activities available in Dubois County, although she admits it’s “hard to keep up with everything going on.”

The Next Find is the culmination of 12 years of redoing furniture, buying and selling household decor, toys, and clothes from the couple’s home.
When they first arrived in Dubois County, Kelly set up shop at Trader Bakers but soon found that she wanted to invest in her own store in Jasper. After finding the space on West Sixth Street across from Toms and next to Ruby’s Pet Grooming, the couple spent more than 500 hours renovating the interior.
“We gutted this building,” Kelly explained.
Now the space is filled with a variety of items, including children’s clothing, toys, small appliances, wall decor, furniture, books, DVDs, bedding sets, rugs and tools. Not only can you find unique home decor, but Kelly also prices items at 50 to 70 percent off new retail prices after researching comparable sales online.
“I use Google Lens on everything to see what people are selling that item for. And so we always go lower than the lowest on eBay,” she explained.

Customers visiting her store or shopping online are typically seeking something unique to add to their homes.
“I think they like something that’s out of the ordinary. It’s not your everyday something that you can find just anywhere,” she explained.
Since opening, she has found that decorative plants and farmhouse items are particularly popular. She has also had a lot of success selling repurposed furniture and upcycled pieces.

Kelly encourages people to visit Good Find not just for deals, but for the experience she’s tried to create.
“It’s bright, and I think it’s just a pleasant experience. And that’s what I wanted it to be is a place that I would want to go to and I would enjoy going to,” she said.
The store, located at 716 W. Sixth Street in Jasper, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. You can visit her website here or follow them on Facebook. The business can be reached by phone at 812-556-0066.
The Jasper Chamber is hosting a ribbon cutting on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. The public is welcome.
Kelly said that her favorite part of her business is meeting new people and helping them find what they are looking for. She has friends all over the country that she has made through selling items on Facebook Marketplace.
