Fern L. (Buse) Barchet, 92, Holland, passed away at 7:04 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, at her son’s home in Huntingburg.

She was born October 18, 1923, in Heilman, Ind., to William John and Della Mae (Stephens) Bruce.

Fern was a homemaker and worked as a restaurant cook. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland and the Evansville Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was a graduate of Selvin High School. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid Indiana University sports fan.

Fern was preceded in death by her second husband, Art Barchet, who died December 15, 1978; one daughter, Linda Barnes; one brother, Forrest Bruce; one sister, Evelyn Taylor; her granddaughter, Kimberly Barnes and great grandson, Matthew Barnes.

She is survived by four sons, Ervin (Becky) Buse of Terre Haute, Bill (companion, Margaret Medcalf) Buse of Huntingburg, Bob (Shirlene) Buse of Lynnville and Jeff (Kathy) Buse of Santa Claus; two daughters, Barbara (Layden) Siders of Levelland, TX and Lena (Fred) Giles of Holland; son-in-law, Roger Barnes of Evansville; by 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Fern L. (Buse) Barchet will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland with burial to follow at St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Holland. Pastor David Darling will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and also at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.
