Ferdinand Welcome Sign contest winner announced

Ferdinand — The Town of Ferdinand announced the winner of the welcome sign contest on Wednesday.

There were approximately twenty entries in the contest which was spearheaded by community volunteer Ali Meyer and Ferdinand Elementary student Kasady Anderson.  It was Anderson that originally approached Town officials about the lack of welcome signage in late 2012.

Amy Troesch, an eighth grade student at Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School, has designed the winning sign in the Town of Ferdinand’s contest to create welcome signage at the Town’s north and south entry points. Troesch is the daughter of Jim and Jennifer Troesch.

Kelly Weyer, a senior at Forest Park, came in a close second place. Weyer is the daughter of John and Jean Weyer.

Elements from both designs will be used to create the final versions of the welcome signs.

Troesch will receive a gift certificate from All Star Sports for her efforts, and Weyer will receive a McDonald’s gift certificate.

“There were so many strong entries—this was a difficult decision to make,” said Ken Sicard, Ferdinand Town Council president.  “This is a pretty important and visible piece for our community, quite literally, the first thing that residents and visitors alike will see as they enter Town.  I’m proud of each and every one of the entrants.”

The entries were judged by Sicard (representing the Town), Pat Miller (representing the Ferdinand Chamber of Commerce), and Diane Hoppenjans (representing the Ferdinand Tourism Commission).
