Ferdinand man airlifted after crashing into home
A sleepy driver ran into the side of a residence in Ferdinand early Tuesday morning.
According to police, Shaun Gentry, 36, of Ferdinand, was driving a 1994 GMC Sonoma at about 12:11 a.m. on Main Street when it went off the roadway at the 18th Street intersection. The truck struck the Ferdinand Community Center sign, a stop sign, street sign and then the side of the house at 1730 Main Street before stopping.
Police said Gentry received significant injuries and was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center after being taken to Memorial Hospital.
The home sustained considerable damage to the foundation and a gas meter was struck causing a gas leak.
The crash closed Main Street for about two hours.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
The Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Ohio Valley Gas and a Berg’s tow truck assisted at the scene.
