Ferdinand Library hosts “Cemeteries as a community memory” talk

Joy Neighbors will be at the Ferdinand Library presenting her “Cemeteries As A Community Memory Program” on October 27 at 5 p.m.

She will share how burial grounds function as historical archives, preserving the stories of migration, epidemics, wars, social change, religion, and family identity. Through graves, plot placement, symbolism, and name patterns, cemeteries reveal how communities understood themselves.

This program shows how to read cemeteries as living records of collective memory.
