  • Event features great music, food, family and children’s activities all day

The seventh annual Ferdinand Folk Festival will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, in Ferdinand, Indiana’s beautiful 18th Street Park.

The festival is, again, free to attend, and is presented by Best Home Furnishings.

Rich Robinson, a founding member of the multi-platinum band the Black Crowes, will headline a lineup of main stage musicians that promises to be one of the most diverse in the Ferdinand Folk Festival’s seven year history.  Robinson has been busy since the breakup of the Black Crowes, reissuing all of his solo albums and releasing a new solo work, as well as touring this summer as the lead guitarist for the iconic rock band Bad Company. His performance on the Folk Fest’s NextEra Energy Main Stage is sponsored by MasterBrand Cabinets.

Joining Robinson on the NextEra Energy Main Stage are the Buffalo Killers, Jonathan Tyler, the Jefferson Street Parade Band, Harpeth Rising, Troubadours of Divine Bliss, Hayley Payne, and the Ferdinand Folk Festival’s singer-songwriter competition overall winner Bethany Boeglin. The newly-named Kyana Woodstock Market Stage will feature performances by the Ferdinand Folk Festival’s “18 and Under” singer-songwriter Anna Wrasse, as well as sets by Brother, Son, a band fronted by Ferdinand native Colin Hildenbrand.

The Ferdinand Folk Festival has made it a tradition and, ultimately, a part of its mission to promote family and community values, while also providing educational opportunities for the entire family. This year is, certainly, no exception to that rule.

There are several new children’s activities this year, including horse rides (weather permitting) and tie dye shirt making, as well as the return of children’s theater (Ferdinand the Bull).  The popular “Raptors of Indiana” presentation has returned, as have children’s concerts featuring Andrea Wirth and Andy and Henry Hagedorn.  Children will also have two opportunities to learn the basics of harmonica with Art the Dude, and the Big Bounce Fun House Play town will, again, occupy right and center fields of the 18th Street Park’s softball field.  All children’s activities at the 2016 Ferdinand Folk Festival are being presented by MasterBrand Cabinets.

Of course, the all-ages and always popular Jam Area led by the Folk Jammers will be open for business the entire day in the park’s upper shelter house.  Musicians of any and all skill levels are encouraged to bring an instrument and jam or simply listen.

Returning this year is an afternoon yoga session, as well as all day demonstrations by the Evansville Astronomical Society and the popular “Tent Talks”, which is a series of brief presentations regarding an array of educational and environmental topics. New educational opportunities offered this year include a “Pedal Power” demonstration, a morning Tai Chi session, and the ability to tour an onsite “Tiny House”.
