Ferdinand fine furniture manufacturer to close

Mobel Inc., of Ferdinand announced it will be closing within the next 30 days.
The manufacturer of fine solid wood furniture opened in 1971.
“This is a strategic decision by Mobel,” said Paul Ruhe, CEO of Mobel, Inc. “Mobel and its employees have manufactured quality furniture for over 43 years with the support of the local community and its many wonderful business partners. Despite the company’s attempts to overcome the obstacles presented by today’s economy, management has determined it cannot continue to operate profitably.”
According to a statement today, Mobel informed the employees of the decision on Friday, January 24.
Mobel has notified its dealers and will continue to accept order through February 17th or until the inventory is depleted. Mobel will then engage in operations to liquidate its remaining inventory.
No decision has been made in regards to the future use of the main facility after manufacturing operations cease.
Mobel specialized in American-made bedroom furniture that was American by design.
“Mobel is appreciative of the long-standing support that it has received from the Town of Ferdinand and Dubois County, as well as its customers, dealers, suppliers, and most importantly, its loyal shareholders and dedicated employees.
Mobel Inc. currently employs about 59 people and in its heyday employed over 150 building fine solid wood furniture.
