Ferdinand Council meeting – August 14

The Ferdinand Town Council met for their monthly meeting last night.

Among the items handled by the council, Fire Chief Dan Lindauer reports that repairs to the fire truck presented last month to the council have been completed. Lindauer says that an additional repair was made to the truck resulting in an about $600 in added cost.

Lindauer reports that the fire truck is back in service.

In other actions, the council passed ordinance 2012-06 which takes advantage of the State of Indiana law on continuous abatement notifications that allows cities and towns to notify residents only once about an ordinance violation.

The council was specifically targeting homes and businesses with grass and weeds that are too tall. The town only has to let the resident know once about the violation and then begin the fine process if needed.

The Council also talked about instituting a fee for Interstate 64 fire runs that cost the town money, but are not reimbursed. Town Manager Marc Steczyk said they will inquire to see what Dale charges and see if it is applicable, based on State directives. Charges might be made based on the number of personnel used to respond to an incident or by the number of vehicles used.

Police Chief Ted Bieker introduced their newest reserve officer, Caleb Lindeman, who will work with the department on a non-paid basis.

Town Council President Ken Sicard reports that the Town budget hearing is set for Tuesday, September 11th at 7 pm, a half hour before the next council meeting. Budget adoption will occur on October 9th.
