The Ferdinand Community Center board celebrated the completion of the expansion of the Möbel Room with a ribbon-cutting hosted by the Dubois County Chamber of Commerce on Friday.

Originally completed in 1989, the recent project significantly enlarged the room and added amenities including two restrooms, an ice machine, refrigerator-freezer, and a separate entrance. The room has been made more functional for business meetings with the addition of a drop-down screen and projector that can be used for video conferencing as well as high-speed internet.

Also, the Mobel Room accesses a new patio and updated waterfall and gazebo.

The increased size — now 2,500 square feet in total — means occupancy has increased up to 180.

The renovation was made possible through donations from members of Art Ruhe’s family and the Möbel Foundation. Ruhe was the founder of Möbel, a bedroom furniture manufacturer headquartered in Ferdinand that has closed. The company still maintains its foundation though.

The Dubois County Community Foundation also contributed to the project through funds established by Seufert Construction, Ernie and Olivia Weyer, and Ferdinand Community Endowments.

Donations are still being accepted to assist with the added costs that were incurred due to rising material prices. Donors that contribute $1,000 will have their names added to a large plaque on display at the community center. Contact any Ferdinand Community Center board member for more information ot to make a donation.
