Ferdinand Branch Library’s Family Safety Day to feature fire truck, ambulance and police vehicle

Would you like to get a closeup look at the Ferdinand Fire Department’s new custom-built firetruck? The 2018 Ferrara Cinder pumper-rescue truck will be featured at the Ferdinand Branch Library on Saturday, October 6, as part of its Family Safety Day, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST.

A Ferdinand Police Department vehicle and a Memorial Hospital ambulance will also be at the library for the public to view. Personnel will provide information about the vehicles and offer safety tips: on fire safety from the firefighters, car seat safety from the police, and first aid information from the hospital.

Purdue Extension will share food safety guidelines and poison facts. The Fire Department and Memorial Hospital will offer free giveaways. The Friends of the Library will have a drawing for two smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, and the Ferdinand Fire Department Auxiliary will also give away a prize.

WBDC (100.9 FM) will broadcast live, sponsored by Seufert Construction and Ferdinand Farmers Insurance Group.

Members of the public will also have the opportunity to express their gratitude to the Fire and Police Departments and Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service by signing jumbo thank you cards.

The new Ferdinand firetruck replaces a 1990 pumper. It has both firefighting and rescue equipment, a 750-gallon water tank, 360-degree scene lighting, automatic tire chains, and a foam injection system.

“Family Safety Day will be both fun and educational,” said Janice Potter, Programming. “The library is pleased and excited to be working with these community groups to benefit the people of the area to build a safer community.”
