Felix R. Sherman, 77

Felix R. Sherman, 77, of Ferdinand, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Kindred Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
He was born in Huntingburg on Nov. 27, 1937, to Herman and Josephine (Lindauer) Sherman. He married Judith Ann Libbert on Aug. 25, 1962, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. She died Oct. 23, 2005.
Mr. Sherman was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish, Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 and United Mine Workers 1189. He was a retired coal miner at Squaw Creek Mine and formerly worked at DMI Furniture, Huntingburg plant. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing and bowling and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He is survived by four sons, DeWayne Sherman and wife Kris of St. Meinrad, Terry Sherman and wife Teresa and Kenny Sherman and wife Hilde, both of Ferdinand, and Tim Sherman and wife Cheryl of Siberia; two daughters, Patty Barkley and husband Donnie of Huntingburg and Teresa Birkle and husband Andy of Jasper; five brothers, Bill Sherman, Oscar Sherman and wife Karen and Nick Sherman and wife Connie, all of Huntingburg, Eugene Sherman and wife Linda of Holland and Herman Sherman Jr. and wife Donna of Gentryville; four sisters, Mary Jochum and husband George of Ferdinand, Bette Beren and husband Charles of Dale, Cecelia Betz and husband Melvin of Celestine and Suzanne Schipp and husband Dave of Huntingburg; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charlie, Leo and infants James and Joseph Sherman.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
