Farris “Wayne” Thompson, 77, Chandler

Farris “Wayne” Thompson, 77, of Chandler, passed away on July 8, 2025, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side.

Wayne was born in Huntingburg on December 9, 1947, to Calvin Thompson and Ida Huff Thompson, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ina Evrard Thompson; his daughter, Julie Thompson and her husband,  Richard “Dickie” Mallison of Portland, Ore.; step-grandson, Mackie Mallison of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Sandra Mason of Huntingburg and Gwen (Randy) Kilian of Huntingburg; two sisters-in-law, Clara Mae Evrard of Owensboro, Ky., and Jan Evrard of Chadron, Neb.; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Rex Thompson, and a sister, Pamela Thompson.

Wayne was a U.S. Navy veteran who served aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA-42 and at the New London Submarine Base in Groton, Conn. 

Wayne worked as a sheet metal journeyman through Local 20 in Evansville for 29 years. He loved building and restoring street rods, as well as riding motorcycles. 

He and his wife traveled through all but one of the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico over the years.  In later years, he enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Florida, where he honed his billiards skills.

There will be no services per his wishes.
