Family plans benefit to help with flood damages to Huntingburg home

A Huntingburg family will host a benefit to help a family member pay for flood damage to her home.

Barb’s Basement Benefit takes place on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at the Huntingburg Eagles from 2:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Barb Faith’s home was damaged during the April 29 flood that impacted Huntingburg. Proceeds will go towards replacing her west basement wall, HVAC system, and water heater.

The heavy rain and water flow from her neighbor’s home caused Barb’s basement wall to cave in and collapse. Since she does not live in a flood plain, her homeowner’s insurance will not cover damages – a predicament that many local storm victims face. She was eligible to receive a low interest loan from the USDA office that will help assist, however, it will only cover half of her total damage expenses.

Without the City of Huntingburg’s fast actions, Barb could have faced even more house damage from her gas line, which is also on the west side of the home. “Mayor Denny Spinner and the entire City of Huntingburg have been very helpful in this process to secure assistance and get my grandmother’s house back together. We are very grateful for their efforts and support.” Remarks granddaughter, Crystal Buehler. “We are also very fortunate to have such a wonderful club backing her benefit. Th

“Mayor Denny Spinner and the entire City of Huntingburg have been very helpful in this process to secure assistance and get my grandmother’s house back together. We are very grateful for their efforts and support.” Barb’s grandaughter Crystal Buehler said. “We are also very fortunate to have such a wonderful club backing her benefit. This benefit could not have been put together without the officers, trustees, and members of the Huntingburg Eagles.”

The benefit includes a half pot, silent auction, bake sale, and more. $10 pork chop dinners are available for pre-sale by calling or texting 812-827-0293. Donations may also be made at Old National Bank to Barb’s Basement Benefit.
