Fall Harvest Day October 11 at the Dubois County Museum

Step inside the Dubois County Museum at 2704 N. Newton Street in Jasper, IN, on Sunday, October 11, to experience a wide variety of activities that happen on the farm in fall. It will be a delight to your senses and will invoke your quest to learn more.

The museum will open from 1 to 4 p.m. to a variety of activities. On hand will be volunteers demonstrating and giving information on the traditional skills needed in running a loom and producing woven rugs with Pam Durcholz, carving on stone tombstones with the County Stonecarvers, quilting demonstrations by a Patoka Valley Quilters Guild, corn shucking, shelling and grinding using hand-operated tools, expert information given about molasses making with the Verkamp family and honey extracting with Casey Dittmer, with samples and tastes of both available. Learn about antique corn and grain harvesting equipment from those that used it in their everyday lives.

Marvel in the musical abilities of the Patoka River Strummers as they play their dulcimers. They will be performing on the log house porch from 1:30-3:00 p.m. On hand will be sportsmen Bill and Gibson Hochgesang to share their knowledge of furs and hides. Abby Lueken, from Lueken Dairy Farm, will do butter making. More fun activities include face painting with Ruth Kuebler and her face painting works of art, a petting zoo and pony rides, and old time crafts and games. Come enjoy the tastes of fall with popcorn, homemade ice cream and apple cider.

Admission to the museum will be charged. Adults are $5, high school students are $3, middle and grade school students are $2 and youths 4 and under are free. Museum members are free of charge. No reservations are needed. Come enjoy a day in the fall at the Dubois County Museum.

About the museum

The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m.-2:00pm, Saturday from 10:00 a.m.-4:00pm and Sunday 1:00-4:00pm. Closed on Monday.

Admission of $5 per adult, $3 for high school students, and $2 for middle and elementary students is charged. Visitors four and under are free. Those holding a current Dubois County Museum Membership are granted free admission.
