Face-coverings still required at government buildings, libraries, and schools

Indiana’s mask mandate will become an advisory on Tuesday, April 6, Governor Eric Holcomb announced last week.

According to his order, the following areas will continue to require face coverings.

  1. Inside all state government buildings, offices and facilities, including but not limited to the Indiana Government Center, Indianapolis office locations, and other offices or facilities throughout the state;
  2. Outside on state property where six (6) feet of social distancing cannot be achieved and maintained with individuals who are not in your household;
  3. at a COVID testing or vaccination site;
  4. at a K-12 educational facility as more specifically provided for in paragraph 8 of EO 21-09. In all other public locations, all individuals within the State of Indiana are encouraged to wear a face-covering over the nose and mouth and where six (6) feet of social distancing cannot be achieved and maintained between individuals not in the same household

While still recommending the use of face-coverings, the governor stated it would now be up to local businesses and governments whether they will be required.

“Keep in mind, local establishments may still choose to enforce the “Mask Mandate” within their own facility. Please respect their decision and follow their COVID-19 mitigation plan when asked,” said Shawn Werner, administration director of the Dubois County Health Department.

Monday, the Dubois County Commissioners agreed to still require face-coverings in all the government buildings and facilities under county control.

The Jasper Public and Contractual Libraries — Ferdinand, Birdseye, and Dubois — and the Huntingburg Library will also continue to adhere to a face-covering policy at all of their facilities.

The City of Jasper, City of Huntingburg, and Town of Ferdinand will continue to require face-coverings at all of its buildings for any visitors.
